Notice of Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List Closure
Effective Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 4:00 PM, the Brunswick Housing will close its waiting list for the Housing Choice Voucher program. Our waiting list exceeds 700 households with an anticipated wait exceeding five years. Due to current funding levels, we do not anticipate any significant increases in funding which would alleviate the need for housing assistance. We will continue to accept applications for our public housing program.

The Brunswick Housing Authority’s Section 8 program consists of 453 Housing Choice Vouchers. Under this program, the Brunswick Housing Authority will make monthly housing assistance payments to a landlord on a client’s behalf. After a client receives a voucher and is briefed on guidelines to the rent levels that best suit their family, they can then go into the community and find an apartment, single family home, or mobile home that will pass our Housing Quality Inspection.
Once a unit is secured, the client is required to pay at least 30% of their gross annual income toward the rent, or more, if the unit is more expensive than HUD guidelines. The Housing Authority inspects all units in the Section 8 Program on an annual basis and works with landlords to keep their buildings in good repair.
